Karla’s DPN Removal Journey.

“So happy with the results. Seeing these moles continue to grow and spread across my face became my biggest insecurity.”

I Found a Clinic!

In 2024, I finally admitted to myself that my moles were getting out of hand. For years, I’d been calling them moles or skin tags—like most people around me—but none of us really knew the proper medical term. They were all over my face, gradually getting darker and more noticeable. I first spotted them around age 23, but by the time I hit 34, makeup just wasn’t cutting it anymore. I couldn't hide them, and I was starting to feel really self-conscious.

So I did what I do best—I started researching. That’s when I discovered they were actually called DPN: Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra. And surprisingly, only a handful of clinics offered proper treatments for them, especially for darker skin tones. I went down a rabbit hole of options. Some clinics were ridiculously overpriced, while others felt too sketchy—like, I wasn’t about to risk scarring my face.

Eventually, I came across a clinic in Birmingham that was literally half the price and, more importantly, specialised in Black skin care. That’s when everything started to change.

Got it done!

People always ask me—“What was it like? Was it painful? How many sessions did you need?”

A few weeks before my treatment, I had a patch test done to check my skin’s reaction and pain tolerance. During the consultation, she told me I could use numbing cream and even recommended one—but she also reassured me that it wouldn’t be as painful as I might expect. She was right, and I ended up going without.

I spent the weekend in Birmingham and had two 30-minute sessions on separate days. It wasn’t bad at all. There was a slight tingling sensation, but nothing unbearable. Honestly, it just depends on your pain threshold.

So yes, the pain was manageable—and I’m genuinely so glad I finally went ahead with it. It’s something I kept putting off, and now I just wish I’d done it sooner.

After Care

Here’s what my healing journey looked like from Day 1 to Day 7!
I was nervous at first, not knowing what to expect—but honestly, I’m so proud of myself for finally doing it. The first couple days were a little sensitive, but nothing unbearable. I followed all the aftercare instructions, and by Day 3, I could already see a difference.
It’s amazing how quickly your skin can bounce back when you're in the hands of a specialist who really knows what they’re doing.

8 Month Update

onestly, my skin looks so much better—and this is without any extra treatments like Pico laser or chemical peels.
Yes, I still have a bit of hyperpigmentation, and will I do laser or peels in the future? Probably.
But for right now, I’m just so happy I can do my makeup without those little bumps getting in the way.

My skin feels smooth, fresh, and genuinely rejuvenated—and that alone has made such a difference in how I feel.
